The Mouse Did It!
Part 1mouse

Pain in the top of your forearm, aching on the bottom of your wrist or in your elbow, or tingling in your fingers….all problems caused by the dreaded Mouse. It's pretty easy to ignore a bit of pain or tingling. You think it will go away or it's just something that happens occasionally when you are using the computer. In reality, these are symptoms of Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) and over time, if you don't make a few adjustments, you are likely to be feeling a lot more of these unwanted sensations in the months and years ahead. In fact, there are a growing number of people who have to give up their careers because they worked through these pains until they were disabled for life.

Is it the Mouse's fault? Well, yes and no.

Almost everyone uses the mouse far too much. In most all cases, there are keyboard shortcuts which can be used instead of grabbing the mouse and clicking every time you want to look at a different window, respond "yes" to a pop-up window, or activate an icon. For those who can remember back to the good ol' days before the mouse, everything was done with keyboard commands. The life of ergonomists was much happier because we didn't have to minister to people with mousing injuries. We invite you to go to our webpage devoted to Keyboard Shortcuts to learn some commonly-used keyboard commands. It is actually much faster to use keyboard shortcuts than to stop typing, grab the mouse, and click. And you will reduce the wear and tear on your hand resulting from overuse of the mouse. Try to learn two or three shortcuts a week for your most frequently-used operations. Pretty soon you'll be amazed at how easy they are and how much faster you can perform these tasks!
