Armrests are an option on all chairs and are an additional cost. Armrests must be used correctly and only when necessary.

The seat in your car could also be contributing to back aches and pain. Consider using a car support or back pillow to improve the support for your low back.

Soma Chairs

Soma offers interchangeable seats and backs, rock option, swingaway arms, and sliding seat pans. Dealers: Check the Soma website to find a dealer near you. SomaComfort has all of the features mentioned above, but has a softer, more contoured seat and backrest than the SomaForm.
SomaForm has all of the features mentioned above, but has a firmer, slightly mushroom-shaped seat and flat back that minimize pressure points.
SomaSupport has the interchangeable seats and backs, adjustable angle, rocking seat with infinite lock, forward tilt, back angle adjustment, and seat depth, and swing away arm option. The difference is that the chair is made from less expensive, imported components and the seats are the flattest and firmest of the models and has no seams.

Alternative Seating

Alternative seating such as kneeling chairs, exercise balls, and bouncing chairs can be used to supplement standard office chairs. They encourage correct posture and "active sitting" as well as strengthening back muscles. However, they are usually too tiring for most people to use safely for an entire day. The use of fitness balls is not a good idea for everyone and should not be used exclusively. Sitting on a fitness ball should be done only for short periods of time and it's important to purchase a ball that is the correct size for you, allowing your feet to rest flat on the floor and arms at the proper height for working. Use of fitness balls for long periods of time can actually lead people to roll backwards and slump worse, so be aware of posture while sitting on the ball and change back to your regular chair when you notice your posture declining.
