Self Care Products
An "ergonomic" product is one that fits the user and is appropriate for the task (i.e., it does not cause discomfort or injury and improves productivity). There is a large variety of quality and cost-effective products available for use in work and home offices. Since there are a baffling number of products on the market that claim to be "ergonomic", it is especially important when you are ordering or purchasing products on your own that you consider our recommendations. Cost is not always related to the ergonomic effectiveness of the product. Many products that claim to be ergonomic can actually cause injury!
Designing a home office that fits you and your family is just as important as having a correctly designed office workstation. Once you find products that you like to use at work, it is a good idea to incorporate them into your home office, too. Also consider using tools at home which will reduce the risk of strain injuries. The office supplier for your company probably has many of the products we recommend available at discount prices. Your company may allow you to order products through their supplier for home use and allow you to reimburse them. If not, or if you do not work for a company, most vendors listed below are happy to work with individuals ordering for their home office.
The table below is a listing of vendors of quality products and showrooms in the San Francisco Bay Area that you may visit. Most of the product vendors sell nationally or internationally. To locate showrooms outside the San Francisco Bay Area, consult your local yellow pages.
